The Security Service of Ukraine has exposed an FSB agent involved in preparing a series of air attacks by the Russian Federation on the transport and energy infrastructure in Vinnytsia region.

To fulfill the hostile task, he was conducting reconnaissance of the locations of key railway stations that could potentially be used for transporting heavy weaponry and ammunition from the Ukrainian Armed Forces towards the frontlines.

The criminal also attempted to determine the locations of critical power substations in the region and obtain information about their technical condition.

The intelligence data he obtained was to be transmitted to his 'handler' at the FSB through an anonymous mailbox. The 'report' was supposed to contain precise coordinates and photos of Ukrainian objects with geographical references and textual explanations.

According to the information provided by the detainee, the occupiers were planning strikes on the critical infrastructure of the region using missile weaponry and kamikaze drones.

In the event of the success of the hostile operation, the Russian special services 'guaranteed' their agent a monetary reward of 100,000 rubles. The funds were supposed to be transferred to his bank card. Furthermore, after completing the task, the perpetrator hoped that the FSB would 'evacuate' him to the Russian Federation.

However, the SSU prevented the implementation of the Russian plans and apprehended his accomplice during the stage of collecting intelligence data for transmission to the occupiers.

According to the investigation, the detainee is a 57-year-old resident of the Khmilnytsky district, who was remotely recruited by the Russian special services in May of this year.

He came under the FSB's 'radar' by sharing his pro-Kremlin views on his social media page in 'Odnoklassniki.' During the search, the law enforcement officers seized the detainee's mobile phone, which he used for correspondence with the aggressor.

Based on the collected evidence, the Security Service of Ukraine informed the detainee of the suspicion under Article 111, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed during a state of war). He is currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing. The perpetrator faces the possibility of life imprisonment.

Counterintelligence measures were conducted by SSU officers in Vinnytsia region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
