The Security Service of Ukraine has arrested another Russian informant who was involved in coordinating Russian airstrikes on Kharkiv. She provided coordinates that were used by Russian forces to carry out missile strikes on industrial facilities in the Kharkiv region in the summer of 2022.
The informant, who worked for an affected Ukrainian enterprise, was initially approached by Russian intelligence during her trip to Moscow before the full-scale Russian invasion. After February 24th, 2022, a representative of Russian intelligence tasked her with providing geolocations of Ukrainian defenders and critical infrastructure within the city.
To communicate, they used a popular messaging app, and to maintain their activities' secrecy, the woman frequently changed her mobile phones. To transmit the coordinates of Ukrainian objects, the informant would take selfies in front of these locations and then send the photos to the FSB, immediately deleting them from her phone afterward.
In an attempt to mask her subversive activities in favor of the FSB, the informant actively posted comments on social media, openly criticizing the military and political leadership of Russia.
Despite her efforts, Ukrainian Security Service agents arrested the informant while she was carrying out a new espionage task for the Russian side. The detainee has been informed of the charges against her and is currently in custody, facing a potential prison sentence of up to 12 years.
The arrest underscores the ongoing efforts by Ukrainian security forces to identify and apprehend individuals involved in espionage and activities harmful to Ukraine's national security.
