The United States has purchased 60 self-propelled anti-aircraft systems Gepard from Jordan for shipment to Ukraine. Previously, these weapons were sold to Amman by the Netherlands.

This information is reported by De Telegraaf.

According to the newspaper's sources, the U.S. government paid 110 million euros for the transportation.

The government of Prime Minister Mark Rutte sold German-made weapons to Jordan in 2016 for 21 million euros, a price the newspaper deemed "laughable." The deal was criticized at the time for weakening the capabilities of the Dutch armed forces.

The Gepard systems are capable of shooting down planes and helicopters. However, Ukraine is expected to use these systems primarily for defense against drones, according to the publication.

De Telegraaf notes that this will allow Ukraine to conserve ammunition for more expensive anti-aircraft systems, such as the Patriot or Iris-T.
