Ukraine is steadily expanding its capabilities to counter strike drones such as the Shahed and Geran. A layered defense system is currently being developed, according to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi following a recent briefing.
The Commander-in-Chief was updated on the effectiveness of drone countermeasure units and current operational challenges. Syrskyi emphasized that this area is a priority both for the state and for him personally.
He noted that the joint goal is to train more drone interceptor crews, educate additional operators, and provide them with more effective systems to neutralize radar and drone targets.
“The effectiveness of our ‘anti-Shahed’ system and the reliability of our missile defense are directly tied to the security of Ukraine’s rear areas. Therefore, we are continuing to select personnel for UAV interceptor crews and forming new dedicated units,” Syrskyi stated.
Following the meeting, he tasked commanders with addressing existing deficiencies and enhancing operations in the drone-interceptor sector.
