The expansion of capabilities for protecting copyright in the online space has been achieved. Ukraine has joined a number of states that will populate the WIPO ALERT platform to counteract websites violating intellectual property rights. The Ministry of Economy has adopted an order approving the procedure for forming and maintaining a national list of websites causing concerns regarding the observance of intellectual property rights on March 21, 2024.

Through cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and WIPO via the WIPO Alert data exchange platform, participating countries can share information on potential infringements of intellectual property rights on an international scale. Henceforth, copyright holders and/or related rights holders can submit requests to include websites causing concern about the observance of intellectual property rights in the national list of such websites to the IP office.

"Despite the challenges of full-scale warfare, we are making every effort to protect copyright and related rights on the Internet for Ukrainian and foreign intellectual property rights holders. Ukraine has become one of the first countries in the world to comprehensively implement the corresponding mechanism based on a secure online platform, onto which authorized states - members of the World Intellectual Property Organization - can upload information about websites and applications infringing copyright from the perspective of national norms. This is also a confident step towards Ukraine's European integration," noted First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine - Minister of Economy Yulia Sviridenko.

Ukraine is the fifteenth country to join the WIPO initiative. This is an important step towards creating a more protected digital space in Ukraine, which will promote not only the protection of intellectual property rights but also further development of the national economy.

"The Ministry of Economy's priority task is to ensure transparent conditions for activities in economic areas related to content dissemination on various Internet platforms, reducing cases of unfair or non-transparent competition. This, in turn, contributes to increasing the economic efficiency of activities of legal participants in relevant areas, improving the regulatory framework in the field of intellectual property, as well as raising national standards for the protection of copyright and related rights in Ukraine and internationally," noted Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Vitaliy Kindrativ.

WIPO ALERT Database is a World Intellectual Property Organization-administered secure online platform where authorized participants from WIPO member states can upload lists with detailed information about websites (as well as mobile applications) reasonably suspected of infringing intellectual property rights.
