The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to strengthen their partnership in promoting sustainable development and economic growth in Ukraine.

As one of the agencies within the United Nations system, UNDP works towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals, poverty alleviation, promoting gender equality, and supporting effective governance. The partnership with the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine aims to enhance activities in the field of sustainable development in Ukraine, taking into account the country's national priorities while maximizing the expertise and resources of both parties.

The Memorandum covers a wide range of partnership directions, including:

• Promoting sustainable, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth by advancing resilient business models such as circular economy and sharing economy, as well as social entrepreneurship.

• Facilitating public-private dialogue at all levels and building multi-sector partnerships for sustainable economic recovery.

• Supporting the creation of favorable conditions for investment attraction, financing of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, including those led by veterans, internally displaced persons, people with disabilities, women, youth, etc.

• Human capital development for economic growth and ensuring sustainable recovery processes.

• Labor market development through targeted initiatives and policies aimed at equal access to employment opportunities for vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities and youth.

• Implementation of responsible business standards and promotion of private sector development in line with EU corporate sustainability policies to enhance its competitiveness in international markets.

• Support for the reconstruction and improvement of access to financing, basic infrastructure, workspace, and business services, especially for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.

• Strengthening internal capacity, external coordination, and financial structuring within the Ministry of Economy for effective performance of its functions.

• Supporting the Ministry in enhancing coordination of mine action within the Interagency Working Group on Humanitarian Demining chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy.

During the signing of the Memorandum, First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy - Yulia Sviridenko noted that the signing of the memorandum would contribute to the development of the business environment, support for small and medium-sized businesses, and the Government's efforts in humanitarian demining.

"The document envisages broad cooperation in many areas, including the development of the private sector in the regions, creating favorable conditions for investment attraction, financing micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. Very important in this context is also support for reconstruction and improvement of access to financing, basic infrastructure, workspace, and business services. In addition, among the important components are also promoting the development of the labor market, implementing innovative practices, and, of course, enhancing coordination of mine action," said Yulia Sviridenko.

UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine, Yakko Silje, noted that the announced partnership is a significant step towards supporting sustainable development and economic resilience in Ukraine.

"Further strengthening of cooperation between UNDP and the Ministry of Economy aims to leverage our expertise and resources to support Ukraine's recovery and development efforts, leaving no one behind," said Silje after signing the Memorandum on behalf of UNDP in Ukraine.
