American Republican Senator Pete Ricketts stated that the United States and its allies must help Ukraine stop Russian President Vladimir Putin, as otherwise, it will lead to a greater cost for the United States.
He made this statement during a conference at the Atlantic Council's analytical center dedicated to Central Europe Week, according to VOA.
He compared Putin to Hitler, pointing out that the Kremlin leader is trying to emulate Moscow's Tsar Peter I, nostalgic for the Russian Empire, and expresses ideas similar to Hitler's about "Germans outside Germany," talking about the need to protect "Russians outside Russia."
"If Putin succeeds in Ukraine and then decides to invade the Baltic countries, it will be the Third World War, and your son will be fighting in Europe," Ricketts argued
The senator emphasized that millions of victims of the Second World War could have been saved if the world had taken Hitler's words seriously at the very beginning. Therefore, he stressed that allied countries must now realize the reality of threats from Putin.
"I believe this is the message we need to convey to the Americans, to say: look, this is in our interest. We are helping Ukraine to ensure that our boys and girls will not fight again in a war in Europe. We are trying to avoid that," Ricketts concluded.
