The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is allocating $60 million to support Ukraine's agricultural sector.
According to Radio Svoboda, this assistance package is aimed at implementing the new Harvest programme, which will mitigate the impact of Russian aggression on agricultural production in Ukraine.
The goal of the Harvest programme is to help Ukrainian farmers improve production efficiency, make it more resilient and competitive during the war, and lay the groundwork for the long-term sustainable development of the Ukrainian agricultural sector.
"As part of the Harvest programme, the agency will promote the creation of a regulatory and business environment in Ukraine that unlocks potential for innovation and helps attract resources from the private sector to continue to feed the country and many others around the world," said USAID officials.
Isabel Coleman, Deputy Administrator of USAID, pointed out that the Ukrainian agricultural sector remains one of the main drivers of the Ukrainian economy, with it accounting for over 60% of export revenues in 2023.
USAID adds that the Harvest program will be part of the "Agricultural Sustainability Initiative in Ukraine" (AGRI-Ukraine). Since July 2022, the Agency has invested over $350 million in it, leveraging over $370 million from other donors.
