Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Vitalii Koval, participated in the Polish-Ukrainian dialogues at the invitation of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine. The meeting was attended by representatives of major Polish companies such as Orlen and Anwil.

During the meeting, the cooperation in the fertilizer sector and the development of bioethanol were discussed.

“Bioethanol development is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. Bioethanol is an alternative to conventional fuel, which can be used not only for agricultural machinery but also for cars,” said Vitalii Koval.

Additionally, the Minister shared that the overall trade turnover between the two countries in 2024 amounted to $11.7 billion. Of this, nearly $7 billion is Poland’s export to Ukraine, while only $4.6 billion represents Ukrainian exports to Poland. According to him, this situation needs to be changed, and business can become a driver of increased mutual trade.

“Ukraine imports 1.5 million tons of diesel and gasoline in total. As for agricultural products, last year Ukraine imported production means, and mineral fertilizers worth $354 million from Poland. This entire import constitutes a large part of Ukrainian agricultural products. For example, to grow one ton of Ukrainian corn, we need to import 75% of the components. Therefore, the profitability of international companies, including Polish ones, depends on the success of Ukrainian agrarians,” emphasized the Minister.

He stated that this is precisely why dialogue is so important. It should be based on facts, cold reasoning, and mutually beneficial cooperation. The better Ukraine's agrarian sector develops, the greater the benefit for Poland, and vice versa.

Vitalii Koval thanked the Polish business for its support and called for investments in agricultural processing in Ukraine. Increasing the added value of Ukrainian products is crucial for the country.
