Winemaking in Transcarpathia originated about 2000 years ago. This is due to the fact that the region was in contact with the ancient Roman provinces of Upper Dacia and Pannonia. It is believed that the first winemakers to make wine were the Celts and Dacians.

After collectivization, a mass planting of vineyards began. A special winrest and nursery base have been created. In 1953, the area of vineyards increased to 5,400 hectares. 1200-1500 hectares of new plantations were laid annually. In 1960, vineyards (excluding the individual sector) cover an area of 14.5 thousand hectares, such as the history of the region has not yet known. Vineyards were planted in the Irshava district. Their area reached 3 thousand hectares.

There were also attempts to develop separate areas for vineyards in the Khust and Svalyava districts. When the development of the wine industry began, wineries were built with automatic lines that produce bottled wines.
