The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has codified and approved the supply of the modular field kitchen MK-500, designed to prepare meals in field conditions for up to 500 servicemen.
Currently, the Ukrainian Armed Forces primarily use old Soviet field kitchens such as KP-30, KP-75, KP-125, and KP-130 for cooking in the field. These Soviet-style trailer kitchens can only prepare two dishes at a time and operate on wood or diesel fuel. Such equipment doesn’t provide comfortable working conditions for personnel, lacks the capability to handle semi-finished products, and doesn’t include refrigeration, dishwashing, or drying facilities.
The new modular kitchen for the needs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was developed by a domestic defense sector enterprise. Ukrainian engineers based the design on a 20-foot shipping container format. The kitchen is transported to the field on a trailer or truck chassis with standard fittings for such large cargo. Notably, the kitchen can autonomously unload itself from the platform using hydraulic jacks. The setup time for the field kitchen, including all workstations and equipment, is just two hours. Six cooks can work in the module simultaneously. These kitchens can be deployed in areas with destroyed infrastructure, operating 24/7, regardless of the season or weather conditions.
For autonomous operation, the modular kitchen is equipped with everything needed for food preparation and comfortable conditions for personnel: a pumping station, drainage pump for waste, air conditioners, a grease trap, kitchen ventilation systems, combi ovens, electric stoves, refrigerators, and even a diesel generator.
More than 20 of these kitchens are already in use. Military chefs have noted that the equipment in the field kitchen often surpasses that of modern stationary restaurants.
