The Museum of Odesa Modern Art opens an exhibition in memory of Viktor Maryniuk.

On November 5, 2025, Viktor Maryniuk — a renowned Ukrainian artist and one of the key figures of Odessa’s unofficial art scene in the second half of the 20th century — passed away.

The mission of this exhibition is to honor his artistic legacy and highlight its significance in the cultural history of Odessa and Ukraine. Viktor Maryniuk’s role in shaping the city’s artistic environment during the 1960s–1980s was substantial, and his contribution to the development of Odessa’s unofficial art scene was fundamental.

Viktor Maryniuk was a co-organizer and active participant in apartment exhibitions of the 1970s–1980s, developing his own distinctive style and a recognizable gallery of painted images. He created a number of monumental works — murals, mosaics, and stained glass — in Odessa and other Ukrainian cities. The artist remained principled and honest in his dedication to culture: he spoke his mind, did not shy away from difficult questions, did not compromise his conscience, and deeply loved art as a way of thinking and living.

This exhibition holds special significance for the Museum of Odesa Modern Art . In 2025, the museum had not planned a major Viktor Maryniuk project. However, following the tragic news of the loss of a longtime partner, the museum team decided to change its plans and respond with a commemorative exhibition.

The exhibition will open on the fortieth day memorial of the artist. In collaboration with the Master’s family, it will feature works from the family collection as well as pieces from his final period, selected directly from his studio.

Museum of Odesa Modern Art , 2nd Floor
31/33 Yevropeyska Street
The exhibition will run until March 22, 2026
