The trade turnover between Ukraine and the European Union, which is Ukraine's main trading partner, grew by 35% in 2021 and reached $62.5 billion, according to Yulia Svyrydenko, First Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Economy of Ukraine, who was in visit in Brussels.

We are discussing the development of common projects between Ukraine and the European Union. The security situation is not a hindrance; on the contrary, it is an impetus to strengthen cooperation in key areas. First of all, in the sphere of trade.

Yulia Svyrydenko, Minister of Economy of Ukraine

According to the Minister, this year Ukraine and the EU must complete important long-term projects provided for by the Association Agreement.

Ukraine, according to Sviridenko, systematically implements the EU climate policy, in particular, in the field of industrial production. The mining and metallurgical industries are actively investing money in the greening of production. The situation is similar in the agricultural industry, where the priority for the state is to promote organic farming. All this increases the competitiveness of Ukrainian products in European markets and contributes to an increase in exports.

An equally important area of cooperation, the minister calls the integration of the energy markets of Ukraine and the EU.

“In the near future we will conduct a test for energy independence, disconnecting from the energy system of Russia and Belarus for a three-day period. Such a decision will demonstrate the independence of our state and will allow us to further unite the Ukrainian energy system with the European one and join ENTSO-E,” Sviridenko said.

An important stage in achieving energy independence is the thermal modernization of 5,000 houses planned for this year. It will save energy resources and will stimulate certain sectors of the economy.
