The United Kingdom has spent over £1 billion on supplying weapons and military support to Ukraine, using funds obtained from frozen Russian assets, according to a press release on the UK government website following Defense Secretary John Healey’s visit to Kyiv.

With these funds, the UK procured artillery ammunition, missiles for air defense systems, drones, spare parts, and other equipment necessary to support and maintain Ukrainian military hardware. This enabled the rapid delivery of hundreds of thousands of shells and hundreds of missiles, the signing of new contracts for equipment maintenance and repair, and the support of Ukraine’s military operations on the front lines.

“Money raised from immobilised Russian assets has paid for more than £1 billion of weapons and military support, purchased by the UK on behalf of Ukraine,” Healey said.

UK support provided in the last 50 days includes:

  • 4.7 million rounds of small arms ammunition for Ukraine’s soldiers
  • 60,000 artillery shells, rockets, and missiles
  • More than 2,500 drones
  • More than 200 electronic warfare systems
  • 100 light weapons
  • 30 vehicles
  • Additional counter-drone and air defence equipment

This year, the UK will spend £4.5 billion on military support for Ukraine, including £2.26 billion provided as a loan through the Accelerated Emergency Revenue Fund, which is repaid using funds from frozen Russian assets.

The press release also highlights new UK sanctions against individuals involved in the forcible deportation, ideological indoctrination, and militarization of Ukrainian children. To date, over 19,500 Ukrainian children have been forcibly taken or deported by Russian authorities to Russia and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, the ministry’s website states.
