Ukraine has completed the official screening of its legislation for compliance with EU standards under the "Free Movement of Goods" negotiation chapter. The meeting took place from March 3 to 6 at the European Commission headquarters in Brussels. The Ukrainian delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Olha Stefanishyna. It also included Deputy Minister of Economy Vitalii Kindrativ and Deputy Minister of Economy – Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka.

The screening preparation lasted six months and involved coordination between government agencies, structural units of the Ministry of Economy, and the Government Office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.

"The free movement of goods is one of the key freedoms of the EU single market, allowing the elimination of technical barriers to trade between member states. During the screening, we presented the European Commission with over 44 presentations on 59 EU legislative acts regulating industrial products. The European side highly appreciated our progress in harmonizing standards and fulfilling our obligations under the Association Agreement," said Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Vitalii Kindrativ.

He emphasized that implementing this chapter will enable Ukrainian products to be exported to the EU market. Upon joining the EU, Ukraine will become an integral part of the single market, where all member states apply the same rules. This will ensure higher quality standards not only for foreign goods placed on the domestic market but also for Ukrainian products.

"The responses provided, along with additional clarifications given during the screening, will equip EU members with the necessary information on the opportunities and benefits of cooperating with Ukraine," Kindrativ added.

He noted that despite numerous challenges—from the global economic crisis to the devastating consequences of Russian aggression—Ukraine’s commitment to progress remains unwavering. The ongoing full-scale war has brought significant difficulties, but it has also highlighted the country’s resilience, ingenuity, and determination to move forward.

"We take pride in the progress we have already made, including reforms in quality infrastructure. However, we understand that the path ahead requires even greater efforts. Harmonizing technical requirements across all sectors, especially in high-risk areas, is crucial for removing barriers that may hinder the free movement of goods," Kindrativ concluded.
