Russian troops have altered their approach in advancing on Pokrovsk, Donetsk region. The Russian troops are attempting to bypass the city from the west through small villages and forested areas, aiming to disrupt Ukrainian logistical chains.
This was reported by Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the operational-strategic military grouping Khortytsia, during a national telethon.
"From the west, they are trying to bypass the city via small villages and forested areas, pressuring to cut off our logistical chains. Our efforts are focused on preventing this because Pokrovsk itself remains a critical base from which we can operate. Their advance is slowing, and we hope it will eventually stop," Trehubov stated.
According to him, Russian forces are employing small groups to fortify any available building or forested area, establishing fire control in front of them.
"Our task in this situation is to destroy them. On the Pokrovsk front, the intensity of clashes rivals that of all other directions combined. There are up to 70 engagements daily. Even when one group is neutralized, another tries to take its place," the spokesperson added.
Trehubov noted that while the Russians initially tried a direct advance on Pokrovsk, they reached a range where Ukrainian firepower from within the city began to take effect. Realizing they couldn't continue forward, they started attempting to circumvent the city.
It’s worth recalling that for the past several months, the Russian forces have been trying to break through Ukrainian defenses on the Pokrovsk front. This area remains one of the most challenging sections of the frontline.
