Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a strike against Russian vessels in the waters of the Azov Sea overnight on July 11, targeting maritime assets used to support Russia’s military and economic capabilities, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

According to the statement, 21 Russian oil tankers were hit during the operation. The General Staff said these vessels are used to transport crude oil and petroleum products while helping Russia bypass international sanctions and maintain revenues that contribute to financing its war against Ukraine.

In addition to the tankers, Ukrainian forces also struck four tugboats, two dry cargo vessels, and a dredger. These vessels are reportedly used by Russia for military logistics, cargo transportation, and supporting operations at port infrastructure.

The Unmanned Systems Forces added that Ukrainian forces conducted operations against 53 legitimate military targets deep behind Russian lines during the night, including facilities in occupied Crimea and the southern territories occupied by Russia. The targets included naval assets and energy infrastructure.

The extent of the damage and the final results of the strikes are still being assessed.

The General Staff said the operation was part of Ukraine’s efforts to reduce Russia’s military and economic potential.
