The Peaky Blinders unit of the National Guard, based in Kharkiv, has received symbolic gifts from Steven Knight, the creator of the eponymous British series. The unit gained recognition for its role in defending northern Kharkiv during Russia’s offensive and was the subject of a BBC feature.
As a tribute to their bravery, the soldiers were gifted three dozen iconic caps designed by Garrison Tailors, the same costume pieces worn by the characters in the series. The soldiers had earlier sent their signed caps to Cillian Murphy, the actor who portrayed Tommy Shelby in the show. Murphy kept one cap as a keepsake and returned the other with his autograph.
The gesture highlights a unique connection between the Ukrainian military and the British series, whose portrayal of resilience and camaraderie resonates globally.
Currently, the soldiers of the special forces group "Peaky Blinders" from the Omega special forces unit of the National Guard of Ukraine are fighting the Russian forces on the most intense frontlines.
Peaky Blinders, set in 1920s Birmingham, follows the Shelby family and their razor-studded caps—a signature of the show’s gritty narrative. The series, which debuted in 2013, spans six acclaimed seasons.
