The Honorary Consulate of Iceland has officially opened in Lviv, with former Ukrainian Ambassador to Poland Andrii Deshchytsia appointed as its head.
The news was announced on Telegram by Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
"The Honorary Consulate of Iceland has opened in Lviv. It will cover the Lviv, Volyn, Ternopil, and Rivne regions. This was announced during our meeting by Iceland’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Friðrik Jónsson, and the newly appointed Honorary Consul of Iceland in Lviv, Andrii Deshchytsia," the message reads.
Kozytskyi noted that Lviv is becoming a center of Icelandic-Ukrainian partnership in western Ukraine. This includes joint projects in reconstruction, education, culture, innovation, and healthcare.
He congratulated Deshchytsia on his appointment and expressed gratitude to the government and people of Iceland for their significant support of Ukraine: over 5.5 billion Icelandic krona for humanitarian, economic, and defense aid in 2022–2023. An additional nearly $30 million annually will be provided until 2028, according to a bilateral agreement signed by the two countries’ leaders, as well as €2 million for ammunition procurement under the Czech initiative.
