Representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) confirmed their readiness to further develop partnership initiatives aimed at modernizing and restoring the agricultural sector.

These outcomes were reached following the fourth meeting of the Japan-Ukraine Joint Task Force (JTF) on Agricultural Recovery Strategy. The meeting was held via videoconference and included representatives from Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, leading Japanese companies, and international partner organizations.

Denys Bashlyk, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, emphasized the importance of developing bilateral cooperation in agricultural recovery, particularly the implementation of Japanese technologies, digital solutions, and innovations in Ukraine’s agricultural complex. The Ukrainian side presented an updated analytical review of the current state of the agricultural sector.

Ukrainian representatives noted that during the Russia-Ukraine war, cultivated land areas have decreased, agricultural infrastructure has been damaged, equipment destroyed, and production capacities reduced. Nevertheless, the agricultural sector remains a key driver of the national economy.

The parties discussed trends in diversifying export markets, focusing on the European Union, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.

Participants included representatives from Japanese companies NTC International, Greein Inc., Seiwa Co., Zensho Holdings, and Mayekawa MFG, who presented current projects supporting Ukrainian agriculture.

As a result of the meeting, both sides confirmed their interest in expanding cooperation and implementing joint projects in agriculture, particularly in technological modernization and productivity improvement.
