Norway will strengthen its contribution to NATO’s air and missile defense system. This fall, F-35 fighters will be deployed to Poland and Rzeszów airport.

The Norwegian Ministry of Defense in Oslo announced the mission aims to protect Polish airspace and a key logistics hub supporting Ukraine.

‘This is a vital contribution. We are helping ensure that support to Ukraine reaches its destination, and that Ukraine can continue its fight for freedom’, said Minister of Defence Tore O. Sandvik.

The operation is carefully planned to maintain Norway’s national readiness and security.

Rzeszów is a city in southeastern Poland, about 80 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. It is a strategic Western support center for Ukraine, through which much of the wartime deliveries pass.

Since 2022, Rzeszów has been the main transit point for NATO weapons, equipment, humanitarian aid, and supplies to Ukraine.

Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport features an extended runway capable of receiving heavy military aircraft, including U.S. C-17 planes.

The city is protected by air defense systems including U.S. Patriots, and NATO aircraft, such as F-35s, are also deployed there.

The area hosts U.S. and allied military contingents as well as warehouses for equipment and supplies.
