The largest energy storage system in Ukraine, with a capacity of 200 MW, has become operational. The project was built by DTEK in partnership with the American company Fluence Energy B.V.

The complex includes six facilities in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions, constructed in a record time of just one year. Investments in the project amounted to €125 million.

Overall, the system can store 400 MWh of electricity, enough to supply power to 600,000 households for two hours.

Ukraine’s Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk attended the opening ceremony and highlighted the importance of the new complex for the country’s energy resilience.

“Every time the enemy tries to destroy our infrastructure, they only accelerate our move into the future. The launch of this complex is a practical step to strengthen Ukraine’s energy resilience. The new capacity increases system reliability and flexibility, reduces the risk of emergency outages, and allows effective preparation for the winter period. It also opens new opportunities for renewable energy development and decentralization of the energy system,” the Minister emphasized.

The complex provides Ukraine with additional opportunities to balance the energy system and regulate frequency, which is especially important given the growing share of renewables and the ongoing challenges of the war. The new storage systems help ensure more stable electricity supply for citizens and businesses.

The opening is also a practical step toward implementing the National Renewable Energy Action Plan by 2030.

The Minister thanked the DTEK group and Fluence for their advanced technologies and support, stressing that the goal of the project is not only to restore what was destroyed but to build a new, modern, resilient, and “green” energy sector in Ukraine.
