On September 3, the Odesa Musical Comedy Theater will host the premiere of the award-winning play "Family Album/Album di Famiglia" by Italian director Matteo Spiazzi. The play, produced by the Kyiv Academic Drama and Comedy Theater, won the GRA festival prize.
What is a family? To explore this question, the play invites you to peer into the cracks of an old house. You'll witness the life of a family living in Ukraine during the 1990s, spanning three generations. What once held great significance quickly loses its value to the younger generations. The story is set during the dissolution of the Soviet Union, at a time when American culture began appearing on store shelves.
Matteo Spiazzi is a renowned director, actor, drama teacher, and theater event organizer, who has worked in theaters across Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Estonia, Austria, Belarus, and Ecuador. He specializes in modern "Commedia dell'Arte," an Italian folk theater style known for its improvised performances by professional actors wearing masks.
"Family Album/Album di Famiglia" is Matteo Spiazzi's first production in Ukraine, created with the support of the Italian Embassy in Ukraine and the Italian Institute of Culture in Ukraine.
The play that won the 2019 III "GRA" Festival Award for "Best Experimental Search Performance" is performed without words.
