A multimedia exhibition titled "Fragmented Evidence" will open in New York on the occasion of Ukrainian Independence Day, featuring works by 17 contemporary Ukrainian artists. The exhibition showcases painting, sculpture, prints, videos, and photo documentation from the collection of BIRUCHIY, an international residency for contemporary art that was located on the currently occupied Azov Sea peninsula.
The exhibition will feature works by Albina Yaloza, Zhanna Kadirova, Vlad Ralko, Volodymyr Budnykov, Oleksandr Hliadielov, and Serhii Sviatchenko, among others. Some objects on display survived during the occupation of Bucha, stored alongside which Russian occupiers committed crimes.

The story behind these objects, as well as the destroyed house of the project's curator Olena Speranska and the founder of the BIRUCHIY residency Hennadii Kozub, will be showcased in a documentary film directed by Ivan Sautkin.
"The project represents both my personal history and the collective experience of artists – in peaceful, blooming Ukraine as well as in the tragic historical moment of war," says exhibition curator Olena Speranska.

According to her, the project portrays the long history of artistic residencies' development in Ukraine and their transformation after the full-scale invasion. "BIRUCHIY was named an 'island of freedom' by artists from all over the world, where they shared their experiences. An experimental sound laboratory, DJ sets, music festivals, open working studios, a contemporary gallery, daily artist presentations, new collaborations, and local installations – all were combined with the spirit of freedom and the unique warm atmosphere of the Azov Sea and the Azov-Syvash National Nature Park, where Russian forces are now destroying infrastructure, causing ecocide, mining fields, and coastal territories," organizers explained.

The "Fragmented Evidence" exhibition will be held with the support of the Consulate General of Ukraine in New York and the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations at the Ukrainian Institute of America in New York, located at 2 East 79th Street, New York, NY, 10075.
Over the course of 18 years, the BIRUCHIY residency has brought together more than 300 artists and 14 art groups from 19 countries around the world, including Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, Russia, United Kingdom, United States, Belarus, Australia, Canada, Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Kazakhstan
