Jan Paďourek, Senior Director of the Internal Security Department at the Czech Ministry of the Interior, stated that the number of sabotage incidents in Europe targeting critical infrastructure has nearly tripled since 2023.

The report comes from Radio Prague International.

According to Paďourek, the acts of sabotage carried out across Europe vary significantly in nature — ranging from terrorist attacks and arson to damaging underwater cables, jamming GPS signals, and provoking conflicts against minority groups to incite violence.

He added that, in response, the Czech Republic must "not only defend itself by reacting to attacks but also actively strengthen its resilience."

Paďourek emphasized that resilience against such attacks is not solely determined by security forces and protective measures.

"Our readiness will depend not only on technical and structural preparedness but also on civil and human readiness," he stressed during his speech at the conference "Internal Security and State Resilience," held on September 8 in the lower house of the Czech Parliament.

According to him, investing in resilience and security today is not a matter of choice but a necessity.

"Security is our shared responsibility. Overall safety rests on three pillars: a secure state, a resilient society, and the preparedness of every individual," he added.

Paďourek also highlighted that ensuring security cannot rest solely on government institutions — every citizen must play a role in maintaining it.
