On January 16, in Kyiv, a meeting took place between Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.
The parties discussed the implementation of the UN Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan for Ukraine in 2025, which aims to raise over $2.6 billion to assist Ukrainians.
The meeting participants also talked about ongoing and new support programs. In particular, Denys Shmyhal emphasized priority projects such as providing drinking water to communities in southern Ukraine, demining, alternative sources of heat and energy, housing reconstruction, and shelter construction, as well as business development programs.
"We expect that all aid programs for Ukrainians will continue, and we also rely on a significant contribution from the UN to humanitarian demining in Ukraine this year, including through the initiation of new programs and projects," said the Prime Minister.
Denys Shmyhal thanked for the humanitarian programs aimed at supporting displaced persons and helping them through the winter, which were implemented jointly with the Ukrainian government. For this heating season, the UN allocated $492 million.
"The partnership between Ukraine, the UN, and UNHCR continues to develop. Thank you for the support and assistance provided to Ukrainians affected by the war," noted the Prime Minister.
In 2024, various forms of aid from the UN reached 8.5 million Ukrainians.
