Poultry meat and grains exported from Ukraine to the EU on preferential terms destabilized the French domestic market, so a balance is needed between supporting Ukraine and protecting local producers.
This was stated by the French Minister of Agriculture, Annie Genevard, before the EU Agriculture Council meeting on May 26 in Brussels.
Annie Genevard emphasized that Ukrainian preferential exports of poultry meat and grains destabilized French markets.
“I support any position that ensures a balance between the need to support a country under attack and the need to protect our own production. You know that when customs duties were removed, it immediately and deeply destabilized several sectors in our country,” Genevard said.

“I mean poultry farming. I also see in the grain sector that grain is not included in agreements, and if you look at the dynamics of imports, especially from Ukraine, it also destabilizes our own productions,” she detailed.
Therefore, according to the French minister, “support for Ukraine cannot be provided without considering the consequences this may have for our own production. Finding this balance seems necessary to me.”
