The Government of Georgia has decided to close the NATO and European Union information center located in Tbilisi. This move comes amid deteriorating relations between the country and its Western partners, as reported by LRT.
Starting from July, the center will be reorganized and formally merged with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, with staff already receiving notices of dismissal.
The information center was responsible for disseminating information about Western values, supporting civil society, and promoting its involvement in relevant processes.
Earlier, the ruling party, Georgian Dream, suspended negotiations on the country’s accession to the European Union.
Additionally, the authorities have passed a number of laws which, according to observers, limit freedom of speech and are aimed at suppressing dissent.
