Greece has announced financial and technical support for Ukraine to restore cultural monuments damaged in recent Russian attacks.
The assistance primarily concerns the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio.
This was reported by the Embassy of Greece in Ukraine. Greek Ambassador Panagiotis Dimitrakopoulos delivered a letter from Greece’s Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni to Ukraine’s Minister of Culture Tetiana Berezhna.
In the statement, the Greek side firmly condemned Russian attacks on cultural heritage sites and announced concrete steps in support of Ukraine.
In particular, Greece is ready to finance the preparation of restoration projects for the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. A memorandum of cooperation is also planned between the European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments and the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

In addition, specialized training programs for Ukrainian restorers will be organized in Thessaloniki, and Greece will contribute to the Ukraine Cultural Heritage Fund.
The embassy emphasized that "Protecting cultural heritage means protecting memory, identity and the values that unite us. Greece remains committed to standing alongside Ukraine in this effort."
The decision was made following the Russian attack on Kyiv, during which the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra was damaged. According to the National Reserve, five cultural heritage sites were affected by the strike.
Rescuers managed to prevent a large-scale fire in the 11th-century Dormition Cathedral, and museum collections and historical artifacts were evacuated in time.
