Iceland has transferred over 2 million euros to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, bringing the country's total contribution to more than 5.6 million euros.
Earlier, during 2023-2024, Iceland made four contributions to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. These funds were used to purchase essential equipment for energy companies in the Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
"Each contribution from our partners to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund is of utmost importance. With these funds, we are purchasing equipment that helps energy workers restore what has been destroyed by the enemy, bringing light and heat back to the homes of Ukrainians. We thank Iceland for its support and this new contribution to Ukraine's energy resilience," emphasized Ukraine's Minister of Energy, Herman Halushchenko.
The Ukraine Energy Support Fund was established in April 2022 by the joint initiative of Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, under the Secretariat of the Energy Community.
Currently, announced contributions from partners to the Fund have exceeded 1 billion euros. The Fund's donors include both the public and private sectors from over 30 countries, including EU member states, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as international and regional organizations.
Since its inception, the Fund has become an effective tool for providing international aid in the energy sector, allowing Ukrainian energy workers to restore energy infrastructure after Russian attacks, carry out repairs, and install new capacities.
