The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the National Police have neutralized an FSB (Federal Security Service of Russia) agent group in Odessa. The group consisted of three local residents tasked with carrying out explosions and arson across various regions of Ukraine.
In the near future, the group planned to detonate a homemade explosive device with numerous casualties in southern Ukraine. According to the case materials, the suspects had already carried out one explosion in Kyiv, after which they were apprehended.
In mid-November, a 17-year-old member of the group arrived in Kyiv, where he planted explosives near a Ukrainian government building. The explosive device was packed with nails and screws and was triggered remotely.
Following the explosion, the SSU meticulously documented the actions of the perpetrator, aiming to identify his accomplices and uncover the entire network. It was recorded how the suspect hid in rented apartments in Kyiv before returning to Odessa by train to prepare for further terrorist activities.
The SSU and National Police arrested the bomb maker "in the act" when he purchased chemical components and explosive elements for another device.
Additionally, during the special operation, two of his accomplices, aged 15 and 20, were arrested for setting fire to Ukrposhta branches in the port cities of Odessa and Mykolaiv.
The investigation revealed that all three suspects were remotely controlled by a Russian handler, whom they had contacted through Telegram channels looking for quick "earnings." They developed and coordinated terrorist plans with him and, under his guidance, manufactured incendiary devices and explosives.
Two of the suspects are currently in custody. Authorities are deciding whether to charge the minor with involvement in the hostile group. The criminals face up to 10 years in prison with property confiscation.
