Cyber experts from the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine have carried out another successful operation against Russian forces. As of February 8, 2024, the Russian army complains about a widespread failure in the drone control programme.
This software is installed by the Russians to reflash DJI drones for combat purposes.
Among other things, the software allows drone operators to:
- configure control panels and create new ones;
- capture video and transmit the image to the command post;
- control the drone from a computer (not through the remote control).
Through the web servers of the mentioned Russian drone reflash project, the functioning of the "friend or foe" system is ensured.
According to preliminary data, as a result of the cyberattack by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, the servers stopped working, so all software is recognized as "foe," and access to the Russians is denied.
Without access to the servers, and therefore to the system, controlling the drones from the remotes is likely impossible.
Currently, the adversary is trying various ways to solve the problem, including switching to manual control mode.
