Ukrainian Film Week in Slovakia will take place from September 3rd to 10th as part of the Ukrainian Culture Month in the Slovak Republic. This event is facilitated by the Embassy of Ukraine in Slovakia and is initiated and supported by the Office of the President of Ukraine, the State Agency of Ukraine for Cinema, the Slovak Film Institute, and the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia.
Throughout seven days, viewers will have the opportunity to watch well-known Ukrainian fiction and documentary films about the Russian-Ukrainian war that dignify Ukraine on the global stage.
Screenings will take place in two cities:
September 3-6, 2023 – Bratislava, Slovak National Gallery – Kino Lumiere / SNG (Address: Námestie Ľudovíta Štúra 4, 811 02 Bratislava)
September 7-10 – Košice, Kino Úsmev (Address: Kasárenské námestie 1, 040 01 Košice)
The Ukrainian Film Week will open with a presentation about representatives of the film industry who, since the start of the full-scale invasion, have been defending Ukraine within the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. On the opening day, viewers will also have the opportunity to watch the war action-drama "Myrnyi-21" directed by Akhtem Seitablayev, who serves in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The film portrays the heroic resistance of the Luhansk border detachment against Russian aggression in 2014.
The event will also feature a number of documentary military films that have admirably represented Ukraine on the international stage and have earned numerous awards.
All films will be screened in Ukrainian dubbing with Slovak or English subtitles. Admission is free.
Additionally, within the framework of the Ukrainian Film Week, a panel discussion on the topic of co-production and industrial cooperation between Ukraine and Slovakia will take place.
