The cessation of support for Ukraine's self-defense by allies will lead to an increase in the number of war crimes, not a decrease.
This was stated by the head of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbock, during her speech at the UN General Assembly in New York. Baerbock believes that as long as Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin is unwilling to come to the negotiating table, the cessation of support for Ukraine will mean 'depriving Ukrainian children's hospitals of security.'
'This will lead to an increase in the number of war crimes, not a decrease. It may also happen in other countries,' she said.
The head of the German Foreign Ministry reminded that after Russia was invited to the international Peace Summit, 'Putin sent his response by bombing a children's hospital.'
She also noted that recently Russia has repeatedly 'played with the inviolability of the borders of the Baltic states and Poland.'
'Therefore, I ask you to help call on Putin to stop his attacks and sit down at the negotiating table. Not only for our security but also in your interests. If a permanent member of the UN Security Council is allowed to invade and destroy its smaller neighbor, then the very essence of the UN Charter will be under threat,' she added.
The day before, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Germany is ready to become the main support for deterring Russian aggression in Europe and plans to deploy a full brigade in Lithuania by 2027.
