The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, has arrived in Ukraine for a visit.

He announced his arrival on social media platform X.

“Began my 12th visit to Ukraine since Feb 2022, reaffirming the IAEA’s support for the country,” Grossi wrote.

He also met with Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko.

“I shared with Minister Galushchenko how we will assist Ukraine in restoring its energy infrastructure, including new units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP, repairs at the Chornobyl NPP, and assessments of substations,” Grossi added.

On May 27, the international environmental NGO Greenpeace reported that the Russian occupation administration has begun building a new high-voltage power line on the temporarily occupied territories of the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions. This power line, being constructed along the northern coast of the Sea of Azov, is intended to directly connect the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant to the Russian power grid. As of May 23, 2025, 90 kilometers of the line with installed pylons have already been completed, with construction ongoing.

In response, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to International Organizations in Vienna has submitted a note verbale to the IAEA Secretariat, condemning Russia’s apparent intent to connect the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP to the Russian power grid and unilaterally resume the plant’s operation.
