"Bulgaria has sent all promised BTR-60 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine," announced the country's Defense Minister Todor Tagarev on March 14.
According to him, initially, the transportation of armored vehicles from various locations across the country to Sofia was organized. This process began on January 29 and lasted for 4 weeks.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Defense stated that the first convoy of 30 wagons departed for Ukraine on March 7, and the last train with armored personnel carriers, according to the minister's words, has already been dispatched.
According to Tagarev, the total cost of transferring the armored personnel carriers to Ukraine amounted to almost 87 thousand euros for Bulgaria.
In various stages of the logistical operation for transporting the BTR-60s, 247 military personnel and civilians from the Logistics Support Command, Ground Forces, and Military Police Service of Bulgaria participated.
26 units of special equipment were also involved in the process.
The transfer of armored vehicles from Bulgaria as part of military aid was announced as early as the summer of 2023 but was delayed because the country's president, Rumen Radev, vetoed it, which was later overridden by parliament.
