Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko together with the delegation of the Kingdom of Norway led by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre visited one of the country’s energy facilities, which has been repeatedly subjected to russian attacks.

During the visit, the Minister showed the guests the damage caused to the energy facility by enemy attacks. The delegation also observed the work being done to restore it. German Galushchenko thanked the Norwegian people for the assistance provided to the Ukrainian energy sector. This includes more than 250 tonnes of equipment for restoration works.

According to the Prime Minister of Norway, the energy sector is one of the key areas of cooperation and support for Ukraine.

Jonas Gahr Støre said that the Government of Norway was allocating NOK 1.5 billion through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to ensure the import of gas and electricity to Ukraine. The funds will be used to repair and maintain critical power infrastructure and emergency power supply in areas affected by the fighting, as well as to purchase gas for emergency storage.

During the meeting, the officials discussed further areas of cooperation in the energy sector.

German Galushchenko noted that Ukraine was interested in the Norwegian experience of developing hydroelectric power generation, and in particular in the Norwegian expertise on the situation at the Kakhovka HPP. The parties also discussed cooperation in the development of offshore wind power.

“I congratulate the Prime Minister on the fact that yesterday Norway opened a large offshore wind farm, which is unique in terms of technology. Ukraine also has a significant potential for wind power development in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. And we want to develop cooperation with Norway in this area,” said German Galushchenko.
