The European Parliament has called for finding legal means to freeze the assets of the Belarusian leadership and direct them towards the recovery of Ukraine. This is stated in a report adopted on Wednesday concerning the EU's relations with Belarus.
In the approved document, the European Parliament "calls on the EU and its member states to find legal ways to freeze the assets of the Belarusian leadership and associated Belarusian structures involved in Russia's military actions and, if possible, use them to support the recovery of Ukraine."
The European Parliament believes that by enabling Russia's unjustified aggressive war against Ukraine, the Lukashenko regime became an accomplice in the crimes committed by Russia, which entails responsibility for the destruction and damage inflicted on Ukraine.
Furthermore, the Members of Parliament also believe that a special international tribunal for the crime of aggression committed by Russia against Ukraine should have jurisdiction to investigate not only the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and Russian political and military leadership but also the Belarusian leadership.
Certain members have called on the EU and its member states to expand and strengthen the scope of sanctions and adopt a new package of sanctions against Belarus and Russia.
