Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine has detained another agent associated with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, known as "Gru," who was operating in Zaporizhia.

The perpetrator attempted to identify and transmit the geolocations of local enterprises in the defense-industrial complex of Ukraine to the aggressor.

His primary interest was in plants manufacturing ammunition for heavy armored vehicles and missile-artillery weapons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The suspect also tracked the locations with the highest concentration of personnel and military equipment of the Defense Forces in the regional center.

To accomplish this, he traveled around the city on public transportation, covertly documenting infrastructure objects, which, in his opinion, could be used for basing Ukrainian troops or producing means of attack.

SSU operatives documented the facts of the reconnaissance-subversive activities of the Russian agent and detained him at his residence.

A mobile phone, which he used for photo and video recording of Ukrainian objects and communication with "Gru," was seized from him.

According to the investigation, the suspect is a former deputy chief of the department of the former regional Ministry of Internal Affairs, who resigned from service in 2014.

At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he was recruited by a Russian Ministry of Defense military officer with whom they had obtained higher education together during the USSR era.

In the fall of 2023, this agent began actively carrying out hostile tasks.

For communication with the aggressor, the suspect used an anonymous chat in a popular messenger, and the transmission of information was carried out using pre-established encrypted words.

Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators informed him of the suspicion under Article 111, Part 2, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed in conditions of martial law).

Currently, he is in custody, facing the possibility of life imprisonment.
