Today, May 20, marks the second anniversary of the defenders of Mariupol leaving Azovstal, but over 1900 of those soldiers are still in Russian captivity.

The Ukrainian Mariupol city council reported this on Telegram.

"Today marks the second anniversary of the defenders of Mariupol leaving Azovstal. 86 days of heroic defense of Mariupol and over two years in Russian captivity. They endured hell in Mariupol, then in Olenivka, and continue to fight in captivity. Over 1900 soldiers from Azovstal are still in captivity," the statement said.

The city council emphasized that the fight continues every day to release soldiers from captivity and bring them home.

"We remember your contribution to our independence," the Mariupol city authorities address the defenders.
