An agreement on cooperation in public health sector was signed by Ukraine's Chief State Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin and Poland's Chief Sanitary Inspector Paweł Paweł Grzesiowski.
The deal provides for deepening the partnership between the countries, in particular during the implementation of the International Health Regulations (IHR), training of medical professionals, exchange of data on infectious diseases and epidemiological surveillance, introduction of the necessary electronic tools for monitoring infectious diseases, and strengthening cooperation between the border regions of Ukraine and Poland.
In the summer, these areas of enhanced cooperation between the countries were identified at a joint meeting between Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin and Chief Sanitary Inspector of Poland Paweł Grzesiowski, and a corresponding agreement was signed in December. The document was inked within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine dated March 28, 2024.
Poland has valuable experience in adapting its epidemic surveillance and healthcare systems to European standards, which is important for Ukraine in the context of European integration and harmonization of legislation with the EU. Our countries also have experience in joint risk assessment during a pandemic and as a result of a full-scale invasion. Now this cooperation will be expanded. Joint approaches to biosafety, response to epidemic threats, emergencies, and the development of preventive medicine are not only a matter of bilateral cooperation but also a component of pan-European security,
Said Deputy Minister of Health – Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin.
The document pays particular attention to supporting the European integration of the Ukrainian healthcare system and taking into account the provisions of the Agreement on Security Cooperation between the Republic of Poland and Ukraine. In particular, it refers to strengthening cooperation in the field of public health, epidemic safety, response to biological threats, as well as the exchange of experience in preparing medical systems for emergencies.
Within the framework of cooperation, the parties also discussed deepening cooperation in the field of laboratory diagnostics, immunoprophylaxis, combating antimicrobial resistance, and training specialists.
