Ukrainians will set their clocks back one last time on the night of October 27, transitioning to winter time, which will no longer change in the future. This change is mandated by law No. 4201, recently passed by the Verkhovna Rada, which abolishes the switch between summer and winter time.
At 4 a.m. on October 27, citizens will turn their clocks back by one hour, effectively extending that day by one hour.
Ukraine will adopt a single time zone, Kyiv time – UTC+2.
The law on timekeeping in Ukraine aims not only to establish legal foundations for time calculation but also to ensure the protection of territorial integrity and strengthen national security. This is particularly relevant as occupied territories in Ukraine currently observe the time of the aggressor state, the Russian Federation. Thus, establishing and solidifying a unified Kyiv time across all of Ukraine will bolster security positions and aid in the de-occupation and reintegration of occupied territories.
Previously, the time change in Ukraine occurred twice a year: the country transitioned to summer time on the last Sunday in March and reverted to winter time on the last Sunday in October.
