Szczecin Jazz Festival presents a tribute to Jazz on the Dnipro Festival. In a unique collaboration between the two festivals, Ukrainian musicians perform a one-off concert in Poland to celebrate the significance of the partnership and jazz at Lagów Landscape Park.
On Thursday, September 22 at 4 pm (New York time) or 10 pm (CEST) the event will be broadcasted via the biggest streaming platform JazzCorner.com. Ukrainian Institute is the streaming and communication partner of the event. Â
More than 6 months of the Russiaâs full-scale invasion of Ukraine are horryfying the world. However, life and music persist even in this reality. Honouring the old adage that âthe show must go onâ, Polish saxophonist and promoter Sylwester Ostrowski joins forces with his longtime friend and artistic director Anna Russkevych.
It is more important than ever to stand with Ukraine and let the Ukrainian voice be heard. For this occasion, Ostrowski and Russkevych not only present some of the acts they once brought to Dnipro, including Ostrowskiâs own Jazz Brigade and star trumpeter Freddie Hendrix, but take it a step further as they set out to include Ukrainian saxophonist Kyrylo Revkov, pianist Olga Danchenko and vocalist Anastasiya Medina.
The Ukrainian festival Jazz on the Dnipro usually takes place in late July or early August. Having been forced to postpone this yearâs edition in the light of current events, Ostrowski, who has been a regular performer and attendee in Dnipro, Ukraine for years, decided to bring the festival to Poland instead. Through a strong presentation of Polish, Ukrainian and American talent, Wazka Restaurant Terrace and its beautiful forest-surrounded veranda in Lake Park Lagów is the perfect decor to pay tribute to Ukrainian jazz creativity.Â
