As of May, 4.6 million people have the status of internally displaced persons, while only 1.5 million Ukrainians receive payments. According to Ukrinform, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereshchuk stated this during the United News telethon.
"Currently, there are 4.6 million officially registered internally displaced persons. This number means that the overall count has decreased because it used to be 4.9 million. This decrease is due to certain changes implemented, particularly last year. People who went abroad lost this status. Those who returned to their homes also lost this status," Vereshchuk said.
At the same time, Vereshchuk informed that the number of people evacuated from dangerous areas of Ukraine recently "is not significant."
"For example, 3,500 people were evacuated from the Sumy region in May, and 6,500 people from the Kharkiv region. These are those who received the IDP certificate for the first time. Meanwhile, there are also those who received it for the second time – they were already registered," Vereshchuk noted.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the number of people currently receiving payments as IDPs is 1.5 million.
"Let's distinguish between the number of IDP certificates and the number of those who receive payments. We have 4.6 million IDPs with certificates, and only 1.5 million who receive payments: there are individuals who do not receive such payments due to their income levels. Some people have had their payments reduced," she said.
