Russia’s targeted attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure resemble the Nazi bombing of London during World War II, which aimed to deprive the civilian population of hope.
This was stated by Secretary General of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jonatan Vseviov, as reported by ERR.
“The Nazis systematically bombed London to plant the idea in the British people that they had no hope. These were attacks meant to destroy hope. They failed. Likewise, today’s strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities, aimed solely at civilian infrastructure, are designed to undermine hope,” said the Estonian diplomat.
At the same time, he expressed confidence that Russia would not succeed, stressing that “Russia consistently underestimates the Ukrainians' capacity for resistance.”
Vseviov noted that:
“What happened over the past weekend (the strikes on Ukraine) is the clearest proof that there is no peace process taking place anywhere. It is a war process — and it is being continued by the one who started it: Putin.”
According to him, the path to peace lies through pressure on the Russian Federation and assistance to the victim, and until it becomes clear “through action, not words, that time is no longer on Putin’s side, there is no reason to expect any negotiations to lead to a strategic breakthrough.”
Vseviov emphasized that Estonia supports additional sanctions against Russia.
“I think Europe, by approving the 17th package of sanctions, is finally showing it is serious — especially now that there’s talk of preparing an 18th package. Of course, we are among the impatient ones, those who believe it should’ve been done yesterday. And if not yesterday, then today. Today the package hasn’t been approved yet, but we continue to work on it,” said the Estonian Foreign Ministry Secretary General.
