In 2024, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine approved more than 330 models of domestically produced unmanned aerial systems (UAVs) for operation, which is 4.4 times more than the 75 models approved the previous year.

This dynamic was shared by Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Valerii Churkin, in a column published by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

According to him, UAVs are beginning to take leading positions in the armament architectures of the world’s top armies.

In the face of Russian aggression, Ukraine has focused on the development of military technologies as an asymmetric response to the Russia’s numerical superiority in both personnel and equipment.

The outcome of the conflict, he noted, will largely depend on the ability to systematically and rapidly scale up the production of the latest tools of war.

“We’ve made a significant breakthrough in the unmanned systems sector. More than 95% of the UAVs currently used on the frontlines are domestically produced,” said Valerii Churkin.

He emphasized that the more new tools of war there are, the greater the capabilities of our forces on the battlefield.

At the same time, the main focus should be on the production of relatively inexpensive and effective means of attack.

“We must inflict significant losses on the enemy at lower costs,” the deputy minister added.
