Norway will allocate 164 million Norwegian kroner (approximately 14 million euros) in 2025 to support demining efforts in Ukraine, particularly through the use of mine detection dogs.

According to a report from the Norwegian government, this funding was announced.

In Romny, the Norwegian organization Norsk Folkehjelp and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine have established a training base for sapper dogs and dog handlers. Since 2022, the training center has professionalized and systematized the work of providing dogs and handlers with optimal conditions for participating in demining activities. In December, the Norwegian government announced that support for Norsk Folkehjelp's work in Ukraine would be increased by 164 million Norwegian kroner for 2025.

"Mines do not distinguish between combatants and civilians. Demining and the clearance of explosive remnants of war saves lives here and now, but it also saves future generations from injury and death among the civilian population. Norsk Folkehjelp has many years of experience in demining, and their efforts are a vital contribution to ensuring a safe future for the Ukrainian people," said Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

Through the Nansen Programme, Norsk Folkehjelp has established itself as one of 69 certified international partners assisting in demining efforts. Norsk Folkehjelp's efforts include, among other things, the training of 14 mine detection dogs and the development of Ukraine's own demining capabilities through the use of dogs.
