The development of wind energy in Ukraine depends on resolving existing issues and imperfections faced by investors in the renewable energy sector by state authorities.

This was reported by the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association.

"Further development of wind energy and the construction of dozens of new facilities depend directly on the resolution or regulation of existing imperfections and problems in the market," the association's statement said.

According to Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Board, regulatory conditions in the wind energy market remain imperfect, and renewable energy producers are still waiting for the repayment of debts for supplied electricity.

According to UWEC data, wind energy accounts for 21.7% of the total balance in the national renewable energy sector, remaining the second largest after solar energy. Overall, the total installed capacity of the renewable energy sector in Ukraine is 10.8 GW.

However, as of the end of 2023, only 583.8 MW of wind power plants directly generated electricity, as 71% of wind capacity remains in temporarily occupied territories and does not supply "green" electricity to the UES of Ukraine.

"According to the strategic plans of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, by 2032, the total installed wind energy capacity is expected to reach 10 GW, which, according to UWEC estimates, is a feasible task considering the overall number of projects already ready for construction or in the development process," the association said.

As reported, the renewable energy sector in Ukraine requires the full repayment of old debts for 2022-2023 and measures from the state to prevent their accumulation in the future, according to Igor Tynny, co-founder of the Ukrainian Association of Renewable Energy.
