In Romania, on the night of November 22, fighter jets were scrambled in response to Russian airstrikes on the south of Odessa region near the state border, and an air raid alert was issued for settlements along the Danube, Digi24 reports.
“Two F-16 Fighting Falcon combat aircraft were scrambled from the 86th Air Base during the night of November 21–22 to monitor the air situation on the border with Ukraine in the context of attacks launched by Russia near the Romanian border,” the Romanian Ministry of National Defense said Saturday morning, according to Digi24.
At 01:33, an air alert was declared for settlements in the northern part of Tulcea County after Russian strike drones were identified near Ukraine’s Izmail.
The Ministry noted that no violations of Romanian airspace were recorded. The fighters returned to Borda Air Base at 03:42.
“We are constantly in contact with our allies, exchanging operational information in real time, and act decisively to guarantee the security of Romania and NATO’s eastern flank,” the statement added.
Earlier, it was reported that the Russian strike damaged the “Orlivka” border checkpoint between Ukraine and Romania, which has been temporarily closed for recovery.
