Currently, the Russian forces has amassed a sufficient number of forces and means within the Kursk region to attempt an attack on Ukrainian territory.
This was reported by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a TV broadcast.
“The enemy really has a large number of forces and means, including personnel and equipment, within the Kursk region,” he informed.
According to him, the buildup began when Russia tried to push out the Ukrainian Defense Forces conducting an operation in the Kursk area, and “the enemy continues to hold them there.”
“From time to time we see fluctuations in numbers, but the enemy has enough forces in this direction to carry out certain actions near our border to create an attempt at an attack on Ukrainian territory,” Demchenko noted.
At the same time, the spokesperson emphasized that the number of Russian sabotage groups has not decreased. In particular, the Russian forces most actively employs its saboteurs within the Sumy region.
He noted that attempts by Russian sabotage groups to enter Kharkiv region were uncovered, and there is a threat to Chernihiv region, but recently the State Border Guard Service has not recorded such actions.
Demchenko also stressed that on the border with Belarus, attempts by Russian sabotage groups to enter Ukrainian territory have not been recorded, nor the creation of strike groups. However, this threat remains and is expected to increase after the start of joint military exercises between Russia and Belarus, scheduled for this autumn.
